The American Toad (Bufo americanus) is the most widely distributed toad in North America. It is generally brown but can be quite variable in colour (varying from grey, olive to brick red). The spots on its back generally only contain 1-2 warts. The warty skin contains many poisonous glands that produce a milky fluid and offers great protection.
